This course will explore the unique challenges and opportunities associated with designing medical devices for use in low resource settings. Students will learn about the specific needs and constraints of these settings, including limited access to electricity, water, telecommunications infrastructure, equipment, and specialized human resources. They will also study the regulatory and ethical considerations involved in designing and deploying medical devices in these contexts. The course leverages the experience accumulated during the last decade by our university developing this type of devices.
