This is an elective course of theoretical and practical nature, which contributes to student outcomes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7. The course focuses on the understanding of advanced concepts in environmental engineering and the interaction between anthropogenic (human) activities and the environment, focusing on concepts, components and environmental aspects. Moreover, implications of a finite biosphere and the complexities inherent in environmental decision-making will be analyzed and discussed. The course aims to convey to the student a detailed view of the different types of environmental impacts that humans can exert on the planet, from very common impacts in our daily lives, such as climate change or depletion of the ozone layer, to other lesser-known areas, such as eutrophication, ocean acidification or eco-toxicity.
